EXERCISE REQUIREMENTS AND TEMPLATES
EXERCISE REQUIREMENTS
Healthcare Coalition of Rhode Island (HCRI) members and partners need to exercise their emergency plans and procedures both from a practical standpoint and to meet certain regulatory requirements. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires that certain participating providers and suppliers conduct exercises to test their emergency preparedness plans to ensure that they work, and that staff are trained appropriately about their roles and their facilities’ processes (this requirement can be found in Final Rule 84 FR 51732. Individual facilities are responsible for documenting their compliance and ensuring that this information is available for review at any time for a period of no less than three years. Please read this the CMS Emergency Preparedness Rule’s Exercise Requirements Summary for additional information on Final Rule 84 FR 51732 and its provisions. .
REAL-WORLD INCIDENT TEMPLATE
In the sections below, you will find templates and resources to support exercises, real-world events, and to support meeting these regulatory requirements.
HCRI encourages all members to activate their emergency plans in response to a real-world incident that causes disruptions to normal operations. The response to that event may be used to satisfy the following year’s community-based full-scale exercise or individual facility-based functional exercise. Members may use an After Action Report Template for real-world events to document observations and lessons learned from the event response.
OPERATION-BASED EXERCISE TEMPLATES
HCRI has developed a template exercise package to assist members in completing requirements. If your organization cannot use a real-word incident to exercise your plans, please download and use these templates to develop, conduct, and document you own exercise.
